The calculator above answers this for any two cities. Here it is pre-computed for a $500,000 budget in the 25 most populous markets we cover. In 22 of the 25 at least one neighborhood with 5+ sales, Oct 2025–Sep 2026 has a median sale price at or under $500,000. Medians run from $99,952 in Detroit to $1,579,248 in San Francisco. Only neighborhoods with at least five recent sales are counted, so a city with few named neighborhoods may simply have thin sales data, not no homes at that price.

Sources: Redfin neighborhood median sale prices and homes sold, Jul–Sep 2026 (best 3-month window; neighborhoods with fewer than 5 sales excluded); city medians from the same market files. Names that are also a separate city or town in the same state are left out, because sales data often files nearby suburbs under the big city; this can drop a few real neighborhoods. Medians cover all home types, not a set bedroom count. Verified October 11, 2026.
