We don’t grade neighborhoods on crime. Look up the streets you’re considering in Colorado Springs with the agency that patrols them:

    What Colorado doesn’t tax

    • At 65 and older, federally taxable Social Security can be subtracted in full from Colorado taxable income.
    • Pension, annuity and retirement-account income can be subtracted up to $24,000 a year at 65 and older ($20,000 at 55–64); Social Security subtracted first counts against the cap.
    • Military retired pay: under 55, up to $15,000 can be subtracted; at 55 and older it uses the regular pension subtraction.
    • Senior property tax exemption: 50% of the first $200,000 of actual value is exempt for owners 65 and older who have owned and lived in the home for 10 consecutive years (apply with the county assessor by July 15; funded by the state each year the budget allows).
